San Antonio – 2016

We took some back roads on our way to San Antonio.  These roads took us through Lockhart, the BBQ capital of Texas.  We decided to stop at Black’s BBQ.  They are famous for their beef ribs, and now I know why.  Ahhhhhhmazing.  What an experience.  It was a great meal in a cool setting.  The town of Lockhart was pretty cool too.  We will have to try some more BBQ joints.  Next trip maybe.

We finally made it to San Antonio.  We checked into the hotel and then went out for a stroll before dinner.  We were staying next to a plaza called La Villita.  Low and behold there was a cannon outside.  As with tradition, Pa and I posed next to it for the always great cannon shot!

The next morning we got up early to visit the Alamo.  No trip to San Antonio is complete without a trip to the Alamo.  The Alamo is full of Texas history.  The battle at the Alamo claimed a lot of lives but led Texas to become an independent nation.  That’s enough history for now.  We arrived, but the place was packed.  We admired it from the outside.

Later in the day, we hopped on the boat cruise down the River Walk.  It was quite nice.  I was good for a while.  The captain was very informative and even funny at times.  But after a while, it was time to make a break for it.  I wiggled out of Pa’s arms and attempted to go for a swim.  He caught me before I could escape.  Doh!

We were off to the Botanical Gardens the next morning.  If there is a garden, then Pa has to go.  And to be honest, I enjoy them too.  Great places for me to run around while Ma and Pa chase me.  There are a ton of lovely flowers and lots of green space to roam free.  There was also an impressive area with ferns and a waterfall.  This was my chance again.  I could not fail this time.  I had to go into the water for a quick dip.  I went for it and boom.  Pa caught me at the last second.  I think my excitement got the best of me.  He noticed pretty quickly what I was doing and was already heading my way.  I must learn to control my emotions if I am ever going to be successful at jumping into the water.

After the gardens we headed back to the hotel for a little R & R.  Across the street there was a park.  And at this park there was……………can you guess?   A fountain of water for me to run through.  Finally, Ma and Pa let me loose to be free and happy.  To be in my natural habitat.  To be one with my kind of nature.  I. Love. The. Water!

Finally!

On our last day, we went for a stroll.  We found a great breakfast place and decided to walk there.  It was a very nice walk down a tree lined street, King Williams St.  There were large oaks and some enormous old houses.  At the end of the road, there was an old flour mill that had a restaurant, The Guenther House.  The waffles were the best!  No, really. They were so good that Pa bought some of their waffle mix to take home.

We took a different route to get back to the hotel.  There was a quiet path along the river before you get to all the chaos that is the River Walk.  We saw ducks and birds and a few joggers (those are some weird creatures).  It was a pleasant morning and a great way to end the trip.  We packed up the car, and that was my cue to curl up and take a nap.
