Bluebonnets – 2016

How do I begin this one?  This, I think, is a strangely odd Texas tradition.  In March and April, Texas wildflowers are in bloom, including the state flower, Bluebonnets.  During this time of year, you can drive down many of the highways in southeast and central Texas and see tons of families taking pictures in the bluebonnets.

We were headed to San Antonio for the weekend, so Pa decided to take some back roads to see if he could find some epic patches of wildflowers.  We had stopped a few times so Pa could jump out and take some pictures, but nothing was quite up to his standard.  As we pulled off a back road and onto a highway in Chappell Hill, we found the spot.  There was a field of bluebonnets set right in front an old red barn.

As we pulled in, we noticed a couple of other families getting ready.  We knew we had to be quick because this was going to be a crowded spot as the day went on.  We were very careful as we navigated our way through the field so that we would not step on and crush any bluebonnets.

We found it.  Several hundred yards in front of the barn was the perfect setting.  We shot for about 10-15 minutes.  I had my hat on in the beginning but had to take off towards the end.  By the time we finished 10-15 more families had shown up.  Talk about perfect timing.

All of this just wore me out.  We still had several hours to go, and Pa was still going to stop and take some more pictures.  My work here was done.  I curled up in my seat and fell fast asleep.
